A California Highway Patrol spokesperson on Saturday morning confirmed that an unidentified third person also killed in the crash. Whether the third individual died at the scene or at a hospital was unclear.
Footage from the scene showed the wrecked car after it collided with the semi. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
Traffic was snarled as authorities shut down eastbound lanes of the freeway. It’s unclear when lanes will reopen.
