Columbus police shot and killed a suspect late on March 31.
At 10:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Schrock Road near Interstate 270 on Columbus’ Northeast Side, Columbus police said in a news release.
A caller told police someone had a gun, was irate, and was pointing a gun at another person, according to the release.
Officers arrived on scene and found the person walking across the parking lot toward a business with a gun in his hand. Officers told him to drop the gun multiple times before opening fire, striking him, according to the release.
The person was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
No one else was injured in the incident, police said.
Police have not publicly identified the person who was killed. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, which is standard practice when Columbus police officers fire.
