A billionaire has responded after Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced his plans to tax the rich — right in front of his luxury penthouse.
In a social video from earlier this month, Mamdani unveiled the new pied-à-terre tax alongside Gov. Kathy Hochul, the first of its kind in the state.
The mayor stood outside Citadel CEO and billionaire Ken Griffin’s home — which he purchased for $238 million — and used it as an example for who will be fronting the bill of the new proposal, which would “levy an annual surcharge on one to three family homes, condominiums and co-ops valued above $5 million when owners have a separate primary residence outside of New York City,” the city said during the announcement.
