ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — A wave of DMV scam texts has been circulating in Eastern North Carolina.
The messages use high-pressure tactics to get you to give away your information. The texts usually come from random numbers and threaten fines and license suspension.
Officials say these scams are made to look real, and it’s important to thoroughly check for any red flags in the messages.
“They’re preying on you to make that mistake and ultimately become victim of a scam,” said Trevor Dunnell, public information officer at Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.
You can utilize tools like your local sheriff’s office phone apps to see what scams are going around in your area.
