A Sussex County bagel shop owner is faces criminal charges for allegedly failing to pay more than $200,000 in sales taxes to New Jersey over a four-year period.
Kristian Vozza, 48, of Sparta, was indicted March 25 on 21 counts, including second-degree theft by failure to make required disposition of property received, four counts of third-degree failure to file tax returns, and 16 counts of third-degree failure to turn over collected taxes, the state Attorney General’s Office announced Thursday.
Vozza failed to pay $205,336 in sales tax to New Jersey from 2021 through 2024, authorities said. He allegedly did not file taxes on behalf of his business during that same period. He owns Vozza Enterprises LLC, which operates as The Bagel Bistro.
“Taxes are fundamental to a government that provides for all citizens,” state Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said. “Paying taxes is not optional, and those who choose to ‘opt out’ will be held accountable and be required to pay their fair share.”
An investigation into Vozza began in June 2025. No information on Vozza’s defense counsel was available as of Thursday.
