FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Two people are facing charges after police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of more than two pounds of cocaine.
According to Florence police, an officer saw a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound near 3609 Florence Boulevard on Sunday. Police said the driver, Felipe Garcia Mendez, was following other vehicles too closely and failed to maintain his lane.
After pulling Mendez over, officers said they obtained consent to search the vehicle and found 2.6 pounds of cocaine.
Mendez, 40, and Salvador Calleja Jimenez, a 48-year-old passenger, were arrested on several charges. Both were booked into the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bonds set at $500,000.
Mendez is charged with drug trafficking, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, following too closely, and failure to maintain lane.
Jimenez is charged with drug trafficking and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
