Summer is on its way, and as the frost thaws and park entrances reopen, excitement builds for exploring the outdoors.
In a press release, the National Park Service announced that Yellowstone National Park will open this Friday for the spring season.
At 8:00 a.m. on April 17, the West Entrance in West Yellowstone and the North Entrance in Gardiner will open to the public.
Visitors can access Old Faithful, Lamar Valley, Norris Geyser Basin, Mammoth Hot Springs, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and a few other places.
Reminders when visiting Yellowstone National Park:
-
Although the weather is warming up, many boardwalks and trails are still covered in snow this time of the year, so pack appropriate clothing and shoes.

Not all services are open this time of year. Check the National Park Service website to see which services are running during your visit and come prepared.
-
Be flexible when traveling through the park at this time of year, as inclement weather can create dangerous road conditions and possible closures.
-
Wildlife often use roads as their paths, and snowbanks can prevent them from moving off the road. Be mindful of the wildlife and keep a respectable distance if you come across them.
Weather permitting, more roads within Yellowstone will open throughout May, including the East Gate, which can be accessed from Cody, Wyoming.
